Speaking of Lead Balloons

Nothing good could possibly come of this, could it? I understand Queen going on with Paul Rodgers in the role of front man. After all, Freddy's dead. But Zep without Plant? I hope they open every night with "What Is And What Should Never Be."

On the other hand, if it's half as good as this, I say go for it:

I was listening to a morning radio show yesterday morning and they were talking about the queen paul rodgers thing. And they were saying when does it become time to change the name of the band, if the original members aren't there anymore?? what do you think??

Erin,

I don't know. I guess it depends on how concerned you are with legacy. If I were doing it, I suppose I would ask myself whether it insulted the intelligence of my audience to go on the road with the old name. Rumor is that the singer from Alter Bridge could be taking Plant's place. Do you think he could ever say, straight-faced, that he's a member of Led Zeppelin.

On the other hand, I don't particularly begrudge Jones and Page's instincts. They created that music. They want to play it. Who's to say they shouldn't? I suppose my compromise would be to call the show "The Songs of Led Zeppelin," by Jimmy Page, John Paul Jones, Jason Bonham and that dude who is not Robert Plant.
